Notary Course

How long do I have access to the training course?

You will have 60 days of access to complete the course. However, the course can be completed in much less time—sometimes even within a few hours.

What if I have questions?

We’re here to answer all of your questions before, during, or after the course. Please use the text chat bubble that appears at the bottom of most of the pages on our website (including this one) to send us a message.

What is the schedule of your upcoming courses?

Our courses are 100% online and you may start at anytime. The courses are available immediately after registration and payment.

I see you offer a video but is there a book/pdf offered as well?

Our training is primarily video-based, but we provide a downloadable pdf file of the slides along with linking to several pdfs on the state’s website, including the notary law and the notary public handbook used as references when the training video was created.

Can I stop and then resume the training at a later time?

Of course! We know sometimes it can be difficult to set time aside for training. That’s why the one-hour training video can be stopped and resumed anytime. To resume, scrub to (fast forward) the part where you left off when you log in again. We recommend writing down the timestamp of where you left off to be sure you don’t miss anything. Please note that the training quiz (taken after watching the video) must be completed in one sitting since it’s a test. If you need to leave the training in the middle of the quiz, you’ll be presented with a new quiz the next time you attempt it.

Why does my certificate of training completion expire in 90 days?

The state of Colorado mandates that the certificates of training completion are only valid for 90 days after the date of issuance.

That would mean that after completing our course, you’d need to complete the state exam and the rest of the application process within that time period.

Does my middle name need to be on my certificate of training completion?

No. The certificate of training completion does not have to contain your middle name or initial. The state does not require us to collect this information.

How do I view or print the certificate of completion?

After completion of the course, including the training quiz, the certificate of training completion is made available as a pdf download. Since the state requires you to submit this document electronically, printing this certificate is unnecessary. However, some students like to print this certificate for their records. Printing or viewing the certificate requires a software application to view pdf files.

Since this is a very popular file format, most computers come preinstalled with a compatible application. However, if you need to install a pdf reader, the most common is Adobe Reader.

What do I do if I lost my certificate of training completion?

You may download another copy by logging into the course and visiting the page that contains the training video. A link to download your certificate will be near the bottom of the page, where the link to the training quiz was before you passed it. Please note that you will not be able to redownload it if it has expired.

Where do I get the exam certificate?

The state issues the exam certificate after you complete the exam on its website. This is separate from our training quiz.

The state provides the certificate upon completion of their exam. If the state says that they are missing the “exam certificate,” then they are looking for a certificate from their website, not our training.

Notary Public

Who can become a notary public?

In Colorado, you can become a notary public if you:

- Are a resident of Colorado.

- Are 18 years of age or older.

- Have never been convicted of a felony.

- Have not been convicted of a misdemeanor involving dishonesty in the past five years.

- Can read and write the English language.

- Have never had a notary commission revoked.

What’s the process to become a Notary?

There are three major steps:

1. Complete our online Colorado Notary training class.

2. Pass the State’s online exam.

3. Submit your application to the State online, including your certificate of training completion from this course and your certificate from passing the State’s exam. Both of these are provided in a pdf format for easy online submission to the State.

We cover all of these steps in great detail during our notary course. We also link to the appropriate pages on the state’s website to make it easy.

What if I have more questions about being a Notary Public?

We recommend that you visit the state’s FAQ section here: http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/notary/FAQ/general.html

I’ve completed your course, but am having trouble logging into the state’s website to take their exam. How can I log in?

The state’s exam website is separate from ours and is managed by the state. You’ll need to set up a separate account on the state’s exam website before logging in. This account is separate from your account on our website or on the state’s application website.

I'm renewing my commission. Do I need to take a training course?

Yes. The state of Colorado requires training if you are either a new notary or if you are renewing your commission.

Does my notary signature have to be my entire legal name?

"You must put your legal name on the application. Middle names or middle initials are optional. The first and last name must match the name on your acceptable identification."

"Your official signature must be consistent, but it does not have to be an exact match to your legal name. For example, if your legal name is John Alan Doe, you can sign “JA Doe.” If your legal name is Catherine Smith, you can sign “Cathy Smith.”"

Notary Supplies

Do you sell seals/stamps, journals, or other supplies?

Not directly, but it’s because of a good reason that benefits you.

We’ve found that most training providers in general (not specifically notary training providers) are either supply sellers first and trainers second or trainers first and supply sellers second.

That means that they’re usually not good at both. Let us explain. Suppose you sell supplies. One day you might realize that you can also sell training to your customers, but you’re not a trainer; you’re a supplier. Since your specialty isn’t training, you might not make a great course.

Now suppose you’re a trainer. You probably made an excellent training course, but one day you realize that you can make more money by selling supplies to your training customers. Since your specialty is not retail, you’re probably unable to offer the best prices.

We don’t know which other notary training vendors that sell supplies are trainers first or which are suppliers first, but we do know that you can usually find supplies at much less expensive prices by purchasing them directly from suppliers that specialize in notary supplies.

Do I need to wait for the state to approve my application before I order supplies?

Since the state requires that your commission ID# is present on your seal/stamp you’ll need to wait for approval and the assigning of your commission ID before ordering your seal/stamp.

Payments & Registration

Will I receive a receipt?

Of course! A receipt is emailed to you after purchasing the course.

What’s the total cost to become a Notary?

Add the following items:

- The cost of this training course.

- The cost to apply to the state.

- The cost of your supplies (e.g., seal/stamp and journal).

Since these costs can vary and depend on your purchase decisions, it isn’t easy to quote an exact total price, but we have a more detailed blog post on this topic.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club through our secure checkout.

I’m trying to sign-up a coworker or additional employee, but the registration form is automatically filling in my information. What can I do?

You’re probably logged in. If you already have an account on our site and are logged in, the payment/registration form automatically fills in your information to make any potential future payments more manageable. If you log off, then you’ll be presented with a blank form and can create a new account.

Do you give group discounts?

Yes! Please get in touch with us for special group pricing. Please include the number of people in your group and the expected timeframe for completion. We don’t make everyone complete the training at once, so we can still offer a group discount even if you think your company might need to train multiple people over the course of an extended period. We also do not require any prepayment for group discounts. Pay the discounted price for each employee as needed without tying up your budget with large bulk training package purchases.

Can I use a “green card” when signing up for your site?

Yes. The Colorado Secretary of State will accept a “green card” as an accepted form of identification when applying to be a Notary Public provided that this identification contains a photograph. Since the state will accept it, so will we. Since the United States government issues this identification, use “United States” as the “Identification State or Country of Issuance” in the registration form.

Training Quiz

Where can I find the link to the training quiz?

The link to the training quiz is near the bottom of the page that contains the training video.

I’ve taken your training quiz more than once, but it keeps saving my old answers. What can I do?

We’re sorry that you are having difficulty with the training quiz. The quiz resets your answers every time.

If you have taken the quiz before then you were presented with the questions that you missed along with the correct answers. We’ve found that when students often feel that their old answers are being saved, the genuine concern is a misinterpretation of the quiz results. The answers that you selected are marked in blue text. The correct answers have a green checkmark, while the incorrect ones have a red crossed mark. If you answered the question correctly, you’ll see a green check mark next to the blue text. If you answered incorrectly, you’d see a red X next to the incorrect blue response and a green checkmark next to the correct response that was not selected.

If you are positive that you are interpreting the quiz results correctly and inputting the correct answers it may be that your computer or network may be caching your responses. We don’t do anything to save your answers on your computer, but perhaps your internet provider or some other software on your computer might be trying to speed up your load times.  If you have another web browser on your computer, you might want to try that or attempt it from a mobile device or a different computer.

If I fail the training quiz, can I take it again?

Yes. You can take the training quiz as often as needed to pass with a 90% or above. Each time you take the quiz, you will be presented with the questions you got wrong and the correct answers to help you study for the next time. The next time you take the quiz, the order of the questions and the order of their answers will be randomized.

I started the quiz, but no question is displayed. How can I fix this?

That concern may be due to browser caching or IT settings set by your organization. Please try navigating to the quiz and reloading it by holding down the shift key while clicking on the refresh button. Holding down the shift key tells the browser to ignore anything previously downloaded and to grab a fresh copy of the page.

If that doesn’t work, we recommend trying a different web browser, computer, or mobile device to complete the quiz. Taking it from home might also be an option if you are at work. Using a mobile device on a mobile network (not on the organization’s wifi) or trying from home will bypass whatever might be occurring on your organization’s network. You can also try contacting your organization’s support, but we’ve found that most customers prefer to avoid that, so we’ve given the other options first.

How can I understand which questions I got wrong on the training quiz?

You are presented with the results of the training quiz as soon as you submit it. The answers that you selected are marked in blue text. The correct answers have a green checkmark, while the incorrect ones have a red crossed mark. If you answered the question correctly, you’d see a green check mark next to the blue text. If you answered incorrectly, you’d see a red X next to the incorrect blue response and a green checkmark next to the incorrect response that was not selected.

Training Video

Does your video have sound? Do I need speakers or headphones?

Yes, an essential part of the video is the audio, so you will need speakers or headphones.

Can I stop the video in the middle and resume watching later?

Of course, but the video will not save your place. We recommend writing down or remembering the timecode of where you left off so that you can quickly use the scrubber beneath the video to “fast-forward” to exactly where you left off. If you don’t get the chance to remember the timecode, we recommend finding a place close to but a few minutes before where you left off so that you do not miss any training content.

What can I do if I have problems watching the training video?

For maximum browser, desktop, and mobile compatibility, our training video is hosted with a pro account at vimeo.com. If the video is stuttering, then it may be that your Internet connection is too slow (which is very rare if you have a broadband, DSL, or cable connection). However, if you normally do not have any issues with watching videos on the web (e.g., on YouTube), it may be a temporary Internet connection problem, and we suggest trying again later.

If you are attempting to view the video from within your organization, then it might be that your organization has blocked web video sites such as YouTube and Vimeo for productivity reasons. If this is the case, you can contact your organization’s IT department for assistance or watch the video from home or on your mobile device.
